How do I calculate the electrical power of my refrigerator in watts?
The following formula is used to convert these capacities into kilowatt-hours (kWh – the standard unit of account for electricity suppliers in the United States):
(power x 8*) ÷ 1000
8* is accepted as hours of instrument use per day. Change the number according to your hours of use.
So let’s take an example to better understand the calculations. In this case I will use my personal use and practical examples.
I have two mini-fridges, one in each room and a fridge with a patio door in the kitchen. I use mini-fridges 8 hours a day and a fridge with a French door 24 hours a day.
Electricity for my mini fridge: (90 x 8) x 2 (two fridges) / 1000 = 1.44 kWh per day. Assuming 12 cents per kWh for my city, I pay 0.2 USD per day for the tworefrigerators.
Electricity for my French door refrigerator: (200 x 24) / 1000 = 4.8 kWh per day. Based on 12 cents per kWh I pay $0.6 USD per day for this refrigerator.
